GATHERING IN GROCERIES!

GATHERING IN GROCERIES!

Autumn is almost here!  It’s harvest time!

Alice knows her family will need lots of food for the winter, but the cupboard is almost bare!

The whole family gathers on the porch to pick the apples.  “Be careful, children!  Alice says as they eagerly climb to “help!”

Next they go to the last Farmer’s Market of the season, where they buy fruits and vegetables by the case!

Anything that “accidentally” falls out is quickly scooped up and eaten, so not all the food makes it home!

Alice gets busy in the kitchen, with curious cubs (and Cornelius) looking on.

Apples, pears, grapes, strawberries, currants, cherries and plums are bottled . . .

As well as tomatoes, peas, corn and carrots.  “Yum!” They exclaim in unison!

Potatoes, onions and more carrots are gathered and put in the root cellar outside.

After many days of cooking and canning, the Vanderbear’s cupboards and root cellar are filled to overflowing!

“Oh, my goodness!”  Alice exclaims.  “That was a lot of work, but I’m glad the groceries are all gathered in!”

“Hooray for your mother!”  Cornelius shouts, as they all sit down for some freshly baked bread and jam.  “We won’t go hungry this winter!”

“We love the fall!”  The children all exclaim!  “It always smells and tastes so good!

Happy Harvesting to All!

They can “bear-ly” wait for you to come and visit again . . .
