"ACORN-Y" CHRISTMAS!
It’s almost Christmas!
Last fall, while walking to and from school, the cubs picked up acorns along the way, (with a little help from Muffy) . . .
Little ones, big ones, and every-size-in-between.
They brought them home, and soon had a basketful.
Every year, the Vanderbears like to decorate with a different theme . . .
“Let’s use our acorns!” The children shout! “They are pretty,” says Alice, “but let’s make them even more beautiful.”
Alice gets out gold paint and brushes for the twins, and Cornelius gets out his drill. He makes holes so Alice and Muffy can put gold thread through them so they will hang.
When they are finished, the acorns are hung all around the cottage . . .
By little bears . . .
Big bears . . .
And every-size-in-between bears!
And on the tree of course . . .
“Beautiful!” They all exclaim!
“Well, I guess this calls for new acorn stockings, a tablecloth and napkins, and bows for us to wear!” Says Alice . . .
She gets out her sewing machine and goes to work, with her “audience” watching. They encourage her on by shouting “Hooray! We always love new things to wear!”
When Alice is finished, they all eagerly don their bows (and acorns), and have their picture taken.
Alice has even found matching paper in which to wrap some of the gifts!
When Christmas finally arrives, Alice decides to carry the theme into their Christmas dinner . . .
And she and the rest of the family (with a little help from Muffy), get busy in the kitchen.
They will feast on . . .
Roast turkey . . .
Acorn dressing . . .
Asparagus . . .
Baked potatoes . . .
Fruit salad . . .
And acorn-shaped gingerbread muffins.
They’re all topped off with acorn-decorated cookies . . .
Acorn pie . . .
And acorn-shaped chocolates wrapped in gold foil! “Yum!” They all exclaim!
“Oh, my! It looks like “acorn-y” way to celebrate Christmas!” Says Alice . . .
“Oh, no! We love it!” Everyone else shouts!
“Hmmm . . .” Say the cubs as they all sit down to the fabulous feast . . .
We’d better start thinking about next year’s theme!
Merry Christmas to All!!
They can “bear-ly” wait for you to come visit again . . .
