THE ICEBOX INCIDENT!
The Holidays are over and the decorations are put away for another year. Since the Vanderbears are tucked into their warm and cozy cottage, they stay awake all winter, napping and eating their way through the long month of January!
Alice decides to clean out the icebox to see what is still good, and what needs to be thrown out.
However, she has more “help” than she needs!
Cornelius cuts a block of ice from the frozen pond outside, so they can put a new one in the freezer compartment.
Meanwhile, Alice clears out the freezer and puts the food on the table to be checked out. All kinds of ice cream, cakes, pies, and even a frozen turkey. “All good!” she thinks to herself.
Cornelius hoists the heavy block of ice into the freezer while the family looks on . . .
Be careful, Muffy! You’re leaning over too far!
Oh, no! Too late!
(It’s a good thing her father was there, so she could land on something soft and furry!)
Now that the “incident” is behind them and Muffy is fine, the cleaning continues.
All the food in the freezer is returned. Next, it’s on to the top shelf of the icebox.
“Oh, my! There’s so much food crammed in here! There’s hardly enough room for even one more morsel!” Alice exclaims!
“Hmmm . . . Meats, fish, fruits, deviled and fried eggs, leftover macaroni and cheese, pancakes, waffles, asparagus and several condiments. Nothing there we won’t eat!” Alice says, as she crams it back onto the top shelf.
Next, Alice pulls everything out of the bottom shelf. “Wow! What a doozy this compartment is! Butter, milk, cheese, eggs, a chicken, more condiments and plenty of leftovers!”
By now, every bear’s mouth is starting to water just looking at all the delicious food, so back in everything goes – except for a “few” items for an afternoon snack . . .
“Silly me!” Alice muses to herself. “What was I thinking? Bears will eat anything!”
As they eat their snack, they laugh that THEY are now cleaning out the icebox!
They also know that, thanks to Muffy, today will forever be remembered as “The Icebox Incident!”
