HISTORY OF THE HOUSE!
We’ve had several people ask about certain things in the playhouse, so we’ll try and give you a short history:
We started in 1997, when our first granddaughter arrived, so we’ve been at this for over 20 years.
It’s child size, (about 2/3rds adult size), except for several Teddy Bear size items.
It’s all Early American in style. The Victorian Era Vanderbears fit right in!
We try to keep everything wood, metal, glass, cloth or paper. (No plastic except for occasional holiday hats and some garlands.)
Most of the “matching” furniture we had built from handmade drawings.
The door and fence were built by an outdoor playhouse builder, also from handmade drawings. He was amazing!
Some of the easy sewing was done at home, but we had a lady make all of the fancy bedding, including the mattresses, pillows, and bed canopy. She made the chair cushions too. Also amazing!
The stoves, tub, the rest of the furniture, and many of the containers were found at antique stores. Some were also bought new, that were painted or stained to match.
We had a local couple laser most of the wooden containers for us so everyone knows “what goes where!”
The food and utensils are mostly made out of wood, as it is very durable and “kid friendly.” Many of the multiple food pieces are divisible by 4 (or bakery items by 3), making it easier to count to know if any are missing.
Many thanks to my husband for letting my fantasy take flight. He was also the one who encouraged me to start this web page in the fall of 2018.
Thanks also to our grandchildren who did (and still do) come to play, and all the friends and neighbors who have joined them.
We hope you also enjoy visiting, and if you have any questions or comments, we’d love to hear from you!
There are only three rules!
Helping the Vanderbears decorate, and seeing the size of the playhouse relative to “people visitors.”
